Fred Conrad Schmidt passed on September 6th following too many years of various health concerns. He was born in Russell, KS to the parents of Fred and Christine (Grasmick) on October 3, 1937.
Fred's education began with eight years in a one room school. He graduated from Russell High in 1956 and done his undergraduate and graduate studies at Fort Hays State University. His studies in Library Science led him to Chadran State College in Nebraska. He then went on to work at FHSU Library for several years. Fred and family moved to Fort Collins, CO and there he was employed until his retirement by Colorado State University Library.
During Fred's time at FHSU, he met Geraldine Stephens and later in 1958 they were united in marriage. To this union they had two sons, Mark and Douglas.
The parents, his wife, Geraldine, son, Mark and four brothers all pre-deceased Fred. Remaining family members are Douglas, his wife, Cindy, children Nicky, Kira
and step-childrenTyler, Steven, Johny, and April.
Fred was an avid reader of history. He was very proud of his "Germans from Russia" heritage.
