Fred Kennedy

Fred Ray Kennedy 87, of Fort Collins, died from a brain hemorrhage on Aug. l 2008, surrounded by his family, at the Poudre Valley Hospital. Fred was born May 20, 1921, in Denver, to Edna Mae Sprague Kennedy and Ray Kennedy. Fred served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939, and in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Colorado state patrolman from 1944 to 1949. In 1949 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Bomgaars in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home in Wray, where Fred purchased and operated Wray Plumbing & Heating. In 1955, Fred moved the business to Fort Collins in partnership with Donald Devlin. He retired from the plumbing business in 1966, and pursued his interest in an industrial park and real estate. Fred attended First United Methodist Church. His varied interests and hobbies were fishing, sailing, rock hunting, silversmithing, bowling, scuba diving, traveling, golfing, exercising, computers, and trap shooting. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Linda and her husband, Jim Chatriand of Manhattan, Mont.; son, Mark, and his wife, Laura, of Castlerock; son, Craig, and his wife, Mary of Fort Collins; grandchildren include Sage and wife, Murielle, Breanne, and her husband, Jeff, Ben, Colter, Katie, Jenny, and five great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members are brothers, Jim and his wife, Helen, of Denver; Frank of Las Vegas, Nev., and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Fred in death are a sister, Mary Dell Simmons; and brother, Michael Kennedy. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover. Memorial contributions may be made to Larimer County Humane Society or First United Methodist Church in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
