Fred Everett Jones Sr. passed away on March 1, 2024 at his residence. Fred was born on June 22, 1924 Lauren County, S. Carolina to Will Enoch Jones and Jessie Mae Cooper Jones. Fred graduated from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, S.C. in 1942. Fred enlisted in the US Navy on April 10, 1943 he served for 22 years, retiring in January 1964 as a Master Chief E-9.
After retiring from the Navy they returned to Fort Collins where Fred worked for the City of Fort Collins Public Works Department at the water treatment plant up the Poudre Canyon for 22 years retiring September 1986.
Fred married Violet Redd on June 2, 1948 in San Diego, California and they had 2 daughters, Patricia D. Ross of Fort Collins, Janice L. Seymour (Randy) of Somers, Montana and 1 son Fred E.
Jones Jr (Mary) of Fort Collins.
Fred was a life time member of the American Legion and the VFW and contributed to a number of helpful organizations. Mom and dad loved to go camping, fishing, and hunting. They would winter in S Padre and fish daily; when they would come back with their catch they would have a fish fry, inviting all of the neighbors. Fred was also a wood worker, mechanists, a trap shooter and just an all-around mountain man. He loved to go hunting for elk with his friends and he earned the nick-name of one shot Jones, bagging a 6 point elk followed by a 7 point in 2 years, with 2 bullets.
Fred loved to garden, and make wine raising his own grapes and taking them through the process. Make his own bread, and peanut brittle that everyone loved. He was a sausage maker and he prided himself with his breakfast sausage, good stuff. Everyone that knew Fred loved him; he was so welcoming, huge heart and was there for everyone.
Fred is survived by his daughter Janice Seymour of Somers, Montana, and son Fred Jones Jr of Fort Collins. Four Grand-children, Nathan Seymour, Erin Seymour, Kimberly Keel and Julie Jones. He also had 6 great-grandchildren.
Proceeding Fred In death are his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, his wife, 1 daughter and 2 grandchildren.
The family will have a celebration for Fred's life at a later date.
