Frank Red Edward Hergenreter, Jr. 88, of Fort Collins, died May 3, 2013 at Poudre Valley Hospital. Mr. Hergenreter was born December 26, 1924 in Sterling, Colorado to Frank and Barbara 'Appelhans' Hergenreter. Frank married the love of his life, Shirley Fraser on June 7, 1949 in the St. Anthony's Church in Sterling, Colorado. Frank graduated from St. Anthony's High School in Sterling, Colorado. He joined the Merchant Marines right after high school. He was drafted in to the Army World War II on January 25, 1946. He worked for Culligan and John Deer upon returning to Sterling. He worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company from December 4, 1949 until he retired in 1986. He loved football, golf, baseball and basketball. He was a member of the K of C since 1946, former Elks and American Legion; he delivered Meals on Wheels for six years and also belonged to the Telephone Pioneers of America. Frank was a most honorable gentleman, husband and father. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; children, Frank L. Hergenreter of Fort Collins, Susan Zimmer of Manson, Washington , Jerry Hergenreter of Fort Collins, Sandy Hergenreter of Fort Collins and Marty Hergenreter of Fort Collins; sister, Suzanne Johnson of Denver; grandchildren, Jake Zimmer, Chris Hergenreter, Dylan Barnes and Carly Hergenreter and many loved nieces, nephews and their spouses. Preceding Frank in death are his parents, Frank and Barbara; son, Steven Hergenreter; brothers, Jake, Joe, Pete and Jon; sisters, Mary, Lizzie, Eva, Rose, Barbara, Katherine, Mollie, Annie, and Madeline. A Rosary Service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Private Interment Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, Colorado. Those who desire may view Mr. Hergenreter from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the National Marfan Foundation in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524, or Masses for Frank at Elizabeth Ann Seton.
