Francis Stretton died on July 30, 2012. He was born in Malden, Massachusetts and received his Master of Science degree in chemistry at Boston College in 1956. He served in the National Guard during his undergraduate and part of his post graduate years in college. His first employment as a research chemist was at Johnson's Wax in Racine, Wisconsin where he met his future wife, Mary. They married in 1960 and have one daughter, Ann. The family moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1963 where he pursued his studies at Notre Dame University, receiving his doctorate in organic chemistry in 1967. Later they resided in Raynham, Massachusetts while he was employed at I.C.I. America in Dighton. Afterwards they relocated to Syracuse, New York where he was involved in post-doctoral studies at the State University of New York. A move to Colorado brought employment, as a Chemical Supply Manager in the Chemistry Department of Colorado State University where Dr. Stretton remained for 27 years, retiring in 1998. His many interests and hobbies included hiking, travel, tent camping, bicycling, gardening, nature studies, and international folk dancing. His parents Agnes Bryda Stretton and Edward M. Stretton preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Fort Collins; his daughter, Ann Stretton and son-in-law, Stanley Starbuck of Madison, Wisconsin; and many friends and relatives. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel with a reception immediately following the Funeral Service. A private Interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
