Floyd Leroy Cooper passed away on July 1, 2016 at his residence in Fort Collins.
Mr. Cooper was born November 8, 1920 to John Ersel Cooper and Gertrude Esther Atterberry in Cheyenne, WY. He grew up in Loveland, CO and served sometime in the CC Camp in Red Feather Lakes, CO. He moved to Denver, CO in 1939 and worked for Croft Trailer Stitch and Ajax Iron Works
Floyd joined the Army in 1942 during World War II and completed basic training in Pomona, CA. He went to Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi with the Army before he was sent overseas in 1944, where he served in England, France, and Germany as a welder with the 3527 Ordinance (M.A.M.) Company. He was discharged in December 1945.
On December 4, 1943 Floyd married Lorraine Margaret Meyer in Littleton, CO.
After the war Mr. Cooper worked in Denver for Ajax Iron Works again and Rickenbaugh Cadillac, then moved to Fort Collins and worked for Ghent Motor Company.
In 1963 Floyd started Cooper Auto Body and retired from there in 1981, turning it over to his two sons. He was a "used car dealer" until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Cooper enjoyed old cars, he even restored some, and traveling with his wife in their motor home.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, both parents, a step-mother, and two infant sons, brother James M. Cooper of Denver; and Wilma L. Ewing of Blackhawk CO.
Survivors include his son John and wife Sherry of Laporte, CO; son Joel of Fort Collins; four granddaughters, Cassie, Janel, Lauren, and Leah; three great grandchildren Makayla, Anthony, and Savannah.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Cooper will be held Monday, 10:00 am at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1200 South Taft Hill Rd. At 12:00pm, Military Honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will take place at American Legion George Beach Post #4, 2124 County Rd. 54G, Old Highway 287.
