Florence L. Hess Dyekman, 101, passed away Jan. 22, 2006, at the Blue Grouse Nursing Home. She was born May 7, 1904, in York, Pa., to Frank and Treava Lantz Hess. When she was 4 years old, the family moved to a homestead at Buckeye. She attended a box lunch social where her future husband, Elmer C. Dyekman, born in Fort Collins on June 1, 1899, purchased and shared her box lunch. They were married Nov. 30, 1922 and celebrated 59 years of marriage. They had two sons, Elmer Jr. and Robert. Florence was a cook for Poudre School District and the Acacia fraternity and was a caterer for many families in Fort Collins. She was very active in county extension clubs, serving as president for many years, and was listed in the Who's Who county extension club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and The Pioneer Association. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 1991; son, Elmer Jr., in 2004; her parents; brothers, Arthur and Eugene Hess; and sister, Marion Hess Forington. She is survived by her son, Robert, and wife, Shirley; daughter-in-law, Patricia Dyekman, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. The Rev. Rich McDermott will officiate.
