Evelyn "Lyn" Smith Finch of Fort Collins, Colorado died November 20, 2011 at the age of 85. Evelyn Dorothy Smith was born in Pennsylvania on February 13, 1926 to Ruth and Emerson Smith. She graduated from Penn State in Dietetics and interned at the Colorado State Hospital in the 1940's. She remained in Colorado and began her career as the first female Dietitian at Rockwell Hall Dorm at Colorado A&M CSU. She married Dick Finch on Dec. 25, 1950. Dick taught music in Johnstown, Colorado for 10 years and she became the mother of four. The family all lived the Scouting Life as Dick served as a Boy Scout Executive in the 1960's in Ft. Collins, Laramie, WY, and Waverly, IA. In 1969 the family moved back to Johnstown and Lyn worked as a Clinical Dietitian at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and in 1981 retired and moved to Fort Collins. She was a charter member of the Cheerful Learners Extension Club and a member of the Estraleta Club in Johnstown. Professionally, she was a member of the American Dietetic Assoc., American Diabetes Assoc. and the American Heart Association and taught nutritional classes through them all. She enjoyed traveling in her retirement and loved the challenges, friendships and travel that came with her membership in the International Training in Communication Club.
Her love of nature led to 20 summers of trailer living at Glacier View near Red Feather Lakes, where she was surrounded by friends, flowers and photo opportunities. Lyn's survivors all remain in Colorado and include her four children, Tom Cathy Finch of Johnstown, Caren Everett of Ft. Collins, Karla Harding of Windsor and Carol Brent Rowles of Meeker; six grandchildren, Nicki Wilkins, Neal Finch, Jeremy Everett, Jenny Lansford, Ben Rowles and Brenda Purkey; eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Zach, Dylan, Terrick, Travin, Jaleigh, Lane and Tyler; her sister, Betty Jane Heffner resides in Washingtonville, PA and she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Finch 1979 and brother, Emerson Smith Jr. Memorials in Lyn's name may be made to the Girl and Boy Scouts of America and the American Diabetic Assoc. in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. A Funeral Service will be held at the Johnstown United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnstown Cemetery.
