Evelyn A. Anderson, 94, of Fort Collins, died September 23, 2013 in Colorado Springs. She was born October 20, 1918 in Auburn, Nebraska to August Plager and Hannah Sodman Plager. Evelyn was baptized, confirmed and married in St. James Lutheran Church, a rural church in Humboldt, Nebraska. She attended high school and Business College and worked as an office assistant in Auburn, Nebraska for 5 years. Evelyn married Howard Anderson on September 23, 1939. Howard served in World War II from 1942-46. While he was stationed at Geiger Field, Evelyn lived in Spokane, Washington and worked at the Spokane Ordnance Command Post. They became the parents of two daughters and the family lived in Auburn, Nebraska and Tecumseh, Nebraska where she was active in her church as Sunday school teacher and in the Women's and youth group. The family moved to Colorado in 1961. They enjoyed fishing, camping, and exploring the beauty of Colorado and other states. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Stegner and husband Floyd, and Helen Anderson; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Duane and April Stegner, Garrett, Devan and Caide Stegner, Brenda Stegner, Derek Widmier, Jon and Cathy, and Paige and Claire Widmier. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and their families. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband in October 1982; her parents and two sisters. Evelyn did secretarial work and her last position was as staff assistant in the Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University until she retired in 1984. After retirement she became an active volunteer in her church and her beloved Anna Circle. She enjoyed bible study not only at church but also Bible Study Fellowship, Community bible study and helped organize a bible study group at Park Lane Towers. She was a docent at the Lincoln Center for 17 years and worked with Hospice for 3 years. She enjoyed travel and her most memorable trip was to Israel and Greece. She enjoyed camping and taking day trips in Colorado. She also enjoyed hosting family and friends as well as people from other countries such as Vietnam, Russia, England, Taiwan and Korea.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E Stuart St on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Pikes Peak Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
