Eunice Knotwell

Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eunice Ada Knotwell, 85, left this Earth on Saturday, April 15, 2006, to be with her Lord and family members. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Encampment, Wyo., to Brady and Abbie Fitzjarrel Bensen. She attended school in Encampment and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1939. On July 22, 1939, she married Donald Wayne Knotwell. They resided in Encampment until 1948, when they relocated to Fort Collins. Her family was very important to her, and Eunice took great pride in being a wonderful homemaker. She served with love multitudes of hearty meals to her family and friends. She was a talented seamstress, making all her daughters' dresses. She was also talented in other handicrafts. She always had a beautiful flower garden and a bountiful vegetable garden. An avid Denver Broncos fan, Eunice would often go to the team's practices at CSU during the summer. In her later years, she took art classes and will be remembered by her beautiful mountain and snow scenes. She was a long-time member of the Fort Collins Seventh-day Adventist Church. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Don, on July 30, 1978; her infant son, Raymond; four sisters; three brothers; and her parents. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Gwendolyn and Jim Luman, of Tomball, Texas, Mavis and DeForest Short, of Elmira, N.Y., Dona and Dale Alps, of Loveland, and Vera Knotwell, of Fort Collins; eight grandchildren, Christina and John Brennan and children, Alayna, Mason and Reece, of Cypress, Texas, Wesley and Amy Caywood and children, Cole, Caroline and Madyn, of Parker, Texas, Eric Alps, of Fort Collins and daughter, Nakita, of Aurora, Dennis Alps, of Northglenn, Michael Alps and Keli Barr and daughter, Ashley, of Loveland, Brian and Tisha Alps and children, Cari and Xzavyr, of Timnath, Skyler and Danielle Alps and children, Tyler and Bailee, and Clint and Valerie Alps and children, Kapryni, Austin and Kordell, all of Loveland. She is also survived by three step-granddaughters and three step-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Collins Good Samaritan Retirement Village Chapel, 508 W. Trilby Road. Pastor Leroy Grimm will officiate. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
