Esther Clark

Esther Blake Clark was born in Baltimore, Md., on Sept. 16, 1909, the daughter of James M. and Esther M. Blake. She graduated from the Roberts-Beech School in Catonsville, Md., and attended Connecticut College for Women in New London, Conn. During World War II, Mrs. Clark resided in Springfield, Mass. She was a civilian employee of the U.S. Army during the war years, working in the drafting department of the Springfield Armory. She was also a Red Cross volunteer in both civilian and military hospitals. Her marriage to Robert B. Clark took place in Springfield on June 14, 1952. The couple came to Fort Collins in 1965. Mrs. Clark was a volunteer sewing teacher at the Volunteers Clearing House and served a term as a board member. She also taught English as a second language at the Volunteers Clearing House and the Poudre R-1 School District. Her other community interests included Junior Great Books, Embroiders Guild, United Way, Friends of the Library, the Lincoln Center, and Fort Collins Opera. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clark; granddaughter, Lynne Nicholson; and great-granddaughter, Rachel Nicholson. She leaves two daughters, Nancy Bowerman of Emmitsburg, Md., and Ann Logan of Naples, Fla.; and a son, Robert B. Clark III of Greenwood Village; as well as eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Foothills Unitarian Church, 1815 Yorktown Ave. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Larimer County in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
