Erna Marie Daubert passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society – Fort Collins Village at the age of 98. She was born in Loveland, Colorado on December 12, 1924, the fifth of seven children to Jacob and Anna (Klein) Hirsch. Her parents, of Russian-German descent, had immigrated to the United States from Russia in the early 1900's searching for better opportunities to farm and raise a family, ultimately settling in the Loveland area.
Erna grew up in Loveland and graduated from Loveland High School in 1941. When not helping on the farm and with family chores, she worked at the Dime Store as well as JC Penny's to earn extra money.
In 1945 Erna married Alexander Daubert, also a farmer, and they began their own farming operation by renting farm ground in the Fort Collins area raising sugar beets and corn. Six children were born into the family in the following years including Sharon, Donald, Dale, Debra, Bruce and Janice. Not only did Erna work endlessly raising the family, but she also tended a large garden the family relied upon, helped Alex in the fields whenever needed, and always managed to have a meal on the table no matter how hard times were.
In 1963, after years of hard work and saving, Alex and Erna moved north of Wellington when they purchased their own farm continuing to raise sugar beets, corn, and pinto beans. Erna, the matriarch of the family, continued to perfect her authentic German cooking, including krautburgers, egg noodles, chicken soup (with butterballs of course), rye bread, various fruit pies, and kuchen. She was also a skillful seamstress that enjoyed sewing, making clothes for the family.
She had strong spiritual beliefs, being an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Wellington for many years, and later the Wellington Community Church where she played organ for nearly three decades.
Erna was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Alexander, and her children Donald, Dale, Bruce, and Janice.
She is survived by her loving daughters Sharon Seaworth Cox (Larry) of Wellington and Debra Werch of Sahuarita, Arizona, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to The Good Samaritan Society – Fort Collins Village, Destiny Hospice of Fort Collins, or the Wellington Community Church. The family would like to thank each of these organizations and their dedicated staffs for the physical, spiritual, and emotional support that they provided.
