Emily Anne Thomas, 25, passed away after a brief illness. Emily was born Aug. 27, 1982, in Fort Collins to Penne and William Thomas, Jr. deceased May of 2002 at age 52. Emily attended kindergarten and grade school at Rivendell Private School. Emily graduated from Rivendell, Cache La Poudre Junior High and in 2001 graduated from Poudre High School. Emily was a precocious child and had many friends. Emily loved animals and had a great sense of humor. She was active in the community through her volunteer work as a Candy Striper at PVH. Her PVH volunteer work included reading books to children on the Oncology unit while their parents took a break. She participated in a program to help an only child family member prepare for the birth of a new brother or sister. She also ran errands and delivered provisions for hospital staff as well as desk clerking. She assisted in the transport of patients and visitors to their various hospital destinations. She also volunteered at the Larimer County Humane Society. Her duties included animal residential assistance, and phone answering. Emily participated in the community Adopt an Animal Program. She was successfully trained in the art of matching pets to new owners. Emily was a member of the Mountain Prairie Girl Council. She learned leadership and self-confidence as the result of her association with all the Girl Scout Troop Leaders. Many thanks to all the dedicated troop leaders and staff. Emily attained the highest level as a Girl Scout Cadet. She represented Colorado at the Georgia Juilet Lowe 100TH year anniversary of girl scouting. Emily became interested in veterinarian activities as the result of assisting in the socializing of Ray's puppies. This led to a two year participation in the Summer School Veterinary Program at CSU. Dr. Julia Gamble invited Emily to participate as a volunteer in her private Veterinary practice. Emily's parents will always be very grateful to Dr. Gamble for this great opportunity. She was able to develop her vocational goal of Veterinary medicine as a result of her volunteer work under the supervision of Dr. Gamble. Emily received The Outstanding Academic Achievement Award, from the President of the United States Award for Excellent Educational Excellence Program, in 1998. My special thanks to Rosiland Jones at Cache LaPoudre Junior High for all her positive support and guidance to Emily. Special thanks to Larry Lashley for sharing his musical gifts and great jokes with Emily and all of us. Emily will be missed by the many people who made positive contributions to her life. We all hope she has a gentle landing wherever she is. Emily is survived by her mother, Penne; and step father, Rich; as well as two cousins in the Denver area. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please visit www.bohlenderfuneralchapel.com to send condolences.
