Ecclesiastes 12 12:1 "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; 12:2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: 12:3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few and those that look out of the windows be darkened, 12:4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low; 12:5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail because man goeth to his long home and the mourners go about the streets: 12:6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed or the golden bowl be broken or the pitcher be broken at the fountain or the wheel broken at the cistern. 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: And the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." - Ecclesiastes 12: 1-7 Emil Henry Steffen Grandpa was born July 31, 1909, in Wausa, Neb., to the parents of Mary K. and Cay F. Steffen. He was welcomed home by God and his wife, Elsie, his parents, two brothers, two sisters, eldest son, Larry, daughter-in-law, Carolyn, and two grandchildren, Dwayne and Josh. He left this world after a long life of ninety-six years on Wednesday afternoon, the fourteenth day of September 2005, while still living and caring for himself at his earthly home in Wellington. The loved ones left behind and who will be carrying his cherished memory is a big loving family made up of two sons, Gerald and Ron; two daughters-in-law, Edna and Carol; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. In the year of 1916, his family moved to Sterling. While helping his family farm, he attended Liberty School northwest of Sterling. After many years of hard work on the farm, he met and married Elsie, his wife of 62 years, on February the sixteenth, in the year of 1943. His country called him to service in May 1942. He proudly served in the Army until his discharge came in October 1945. After this, his family and himself settled in the Denver area, where he worked for Gates Rubber Company for a few years. The spring of 1947, he loaded up his family, consisting of a wife and two sons, and moved to the farming country of Waverly. While still farming, he also secured a full-time job at the veterinary department at Colorado State University in 1954. In the summer of 1956, he decided to give up dairy farming and move to Fort Collins. This time when the move was made, he packed up his wife and three sons. He continued working at CSU until he retired in 1974. He was able to travel with his wife for a few years, they chose to live in Truth or Consequences, N.M., for a few years. After a few years in New Mexico, they came back to their family who wanted them home. He lived out the rest of his years in the Fort Collins and Wellington areas. He was called by many names: Emil, Husband, Dad and Grandpa. Whatever name was called out, he was there to receive and give back the love by which it was called. We know his new home is filled with loved ones who are happy to see him, but this old house here misses and loves him also. Officiating of his memorial service will be Pastor Bill Sutton, honored and loved friend by Emil H. Steffen. The services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Those who desire may view Emil from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
