Elmeta Cyphert, 89, died May 30, 2018 at Columbine West Health & Rehab. She was born February 28, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas. She was the first of five children born to George and Wahneeta Kearns. She was proud to be a registered nurse, graduating from St. Joseph's Nursing school in 1950. She worked at many nursing jobs, but she finished her career at St. Francis Hospital in the surgery department.
She married John Cyphert in 1953. They had four children. Elmeta is survived by son, John of Wichita, KS; daughters Janet (Tom) Cochran of Ft. Collins, Catherine (Charlie) McIntosh of Ness City, KS; sisters Joyce Craig and Barbara Houchen of Wichita, KS; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 2011, and son Kent in 1977.
She was an avid knitter, keeping many baby's feet warm with her booties. She also learned to quilt after retirement, and traveled to many quilt shows with her daughter and friends. Another favorite past time was baking cookies or muffins for family and friends. Her biggest adventures took her to China on a medical-surgical nursing trip, Hawaii to explore the Napali coast, Yellowstone to hike the geysers with grandchildren, and Wyoming and Idaho for whitewater rafting.
