Listen to Obituary
Liz "Lizzie", "Liz-Bit" & "Ya Ya Sister" , 68 of Fort Collins passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011. She leaves our world and enters a better one after battling breast cancer for two years. Liz is survived by her son, Mark Pam Brown and grandsons, Joshua and Nicholas. Liz was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 22, 1943. She soon after moved to Norfolk, Virginia where she was raised by her parents, Robert and Jean Armatis where her father served in the Navy and civil service. Liz was an accomplished vocal performer in her young adult years, professionally singing in nightclubs and for USO's. Liz married into Navy life and with her husband of 27 years, lived in places such as Maine, California, Hawaii, Virginia, finally settling down in Fort Collins. Despite Fort Collins becoming her beloved home, she would fondly speak of the travel in those early years. Liz worked for Poudre Valley Health System for 27 years, most of which was in tele-communications, where she built many lasting friendships and set an example for everyone to follow. Liz retired early in 2005 to care for her aging mother, Jean, who lived with her. Liz's four largest passions in life, besides raising her son, were her grandchildren, her close friendships, her work and her love for dogs. She once trained and showed a pair of championship winning Great Danes, but that was just one example of the many dogs that have been a part of her life. Liz loved taking care of her home and yard and always kept things looking beautiful. Liz was blessed with many incredible and caring friends whose love and support were endless. Their love and Liz's bright spirit will infect and inspire us for years to come. A memorial mass and brunch will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Blessed John XXIII University Center at 1220 University Ave. In lieu of flowers please direct any contributions to the Susan G.
