Mrs. Eleanor "Lila" M. Santos was born on March 21st, 1928, in Fort Collins. She entered eternal life on Aug. 25, 2005. Lila was the loving wife of Deacon Nicholas B. Santos. They were married on May 19, 1945, at Holy Family Church in Fort Collins. Mother of eight children, Kathy Zurich, Rita Armendariz, Wallace Santos, Joseph Santos, Renee Agboyani, all of Fort Collins, and Daniel Santos, of California. Loving mother-in-law to Robert Agboyani and Roberto Armendariz, also of Fort Collins. She was preceded in eternal life by a son, Ronald Santos, and daughter, Linda Sanchez. Grandmother to 17 and great-grandmother to five. Lila and Nick moved to San Jose, Calif., in 1948 where Lila worked as senior nutrition site manager at Hank Lopez Senior Center. Lila retired at age 67 in 1995. Lila was actively involved in the community with special interest in her parish Our Lady of Guadelupe Church in San Jose, Calif. She served in several capacities, including Catholic Doctrine Coordinator, Legion of Mary, PACT and Communidad de Basis. Lila was instrumental support for her husband Nick's ordination and service as a Catholic Deacon for years. Lila and her husband, Nick, returned to Fort Collins in 1996 after raising eight children to enjoy retirement with all her children and grandchildren. "As we look at the created world we realize that we have it only on loan. It comes to us as God's gift, and eventually we return his gift to him. We have no right to turn it into an ecological wilderness or to destroy it."-Pope John Paul II. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Father Douglas Hunt, C.R. will be officiating the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
