Ms. Eleanor Gertrude Halbig died Friday, July 21, 2006. She was 71 years old. Eleanor Mittendorf was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on March 27, 1935, to Gertrude and Paul Mittendorf. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School, New York, in 1953. Eleanor enjoyed being a member of the Long Island Choir. She worked at J.C, Penney before marrying Josef Halbig in 1961. In May 1962 she gave birth to her only son, Erich. Erich was the light, pride and joy of her life. She and Erich shared a close and loving relationship. Eleanor was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude and father, Paul. Ms. Halbig is survived by her son, Erich and his wife, Roxanne, of Fort Collins; brother, Paul and his three daughters, Ann Marie, Julie, and Sandra of Florida. A special thank you from the family to all the caregivers at North Shore Health Care Center in Loveland who befriended and loved Eleanor. A service in her honor will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be held from 9-4 p.m. Wednesday.
