A loving husband, father, papa, and friend to many went home to be with his Heavenly
Father, on Friday, September 23, 2016, at the age of 84. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything. His memory was "sharper than a tack", he had a joke for all occasions, and he gave his family and friends nicknames of endearment.
Edward Morgan Wilson was born to Edward Lake Willson and Edra Ava Hankins Wilson
on August 4, 1932 in Childress, Texas. He was the only boy and youngest of four. Ed
learned at a young age to help others from his dad who brought the homeless home,
just in time to eat dinner with the family. His ornery nature manifested in various ways.
Not only would Ed tear off the heads of his sisters dolls but he would arrive late for his
10:00 o'clock curfew. When asked what time it was by his half asleep mother, Ed would
respond with "it's plenty past ten" which she interpreted as being twenty past ten.
Directly out of high school, Ed took great pride in serving his country from January 1951
to October 1953 then re-enlisted and served until October 1956 for a total of 6 years in
the United States Army. Climbing up in rank from Private to Corporal, he served in the
Korean War. Some of his Military honors included Good Conduct, Korean Service
Medal, and Korea Presidential Unit Citation Award.
After an Honorable Discharge from the Army, Ed attended West Texas State University
in Canyon, Texas. He was taking business classes, when he met Martha Jane Wilson,
attending the same University. At the time, Jane was engaged to marry another man
and Ed persuaded her to marry him. His quick whit and charm was very convincing.
They were married on August 21, 1959, in Amarillo, Texas.
During their early married years, Ed owned his own gas station. Their firstborn, Maurisa came along in 1960. Shortly after that, Tracy, was born in 1961. She was ten days old when they went to visit Jane's mom and dad in Fort Collins, Colorado. They loved it so much they moved to
Fort Collins, in 1962. Ed then worked for Lone Star Steel Company, as a Quality Control
Supervisor. In 1969, Cindy joined the family, and Ed and Jane teased that she was a
"hunting baby". He retired from Lone Star Steel in 1982, after 20 years of service. He
only semi-retired, because he loved to be active. He managed the lawn care and
sprinkler systems, at duplexes they co-owned with Jane's family.
Ed enjoyed living in Fort Collins, Colorado for 54 years. Ed and Jane recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. A true testament of their love and covenant they made to God and each other.
He was faithful to his family and extended church family. His legacy will continue on
through his dedication to serve. He was joyous in volunteering as a greeter at church,
cleaning of the church, mentoring the youth (at The Filling Station and The River of
Life), and spending time corralling the Royal Rangers. His sense of humor and being
young at heart was his nature and there was no generational gap when Ed was around.
Ed also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and scenic drives in Colorful Colorado. Another pride
and joy was nurturing a large vegetable garden. He was an avid sports fan, especially
when it came to the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. He would follow all the stats
of many sports, when perusing the newspaper. He didn't meet a sport or a person he
didn't like.
Survivors include his wife, Jane of Fort Collins, Colorado. Maurisa Jones (Buddy) of
Rotan, Texas. Tracy Post (David) of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Cindy Anderson (Jeff) of
Fort Collins, Colorado. Six grandchildren, Resa Deaton (Dale), Tyler Luke (Adriann),
Josh Post (Andrea), Michelle Lucas (Steven), Kirsten Brauser, and Morgan Anderson.
Six great-grandchildren, Chasin Deaton, Kylie Deaton, Stetson McPherson, Aubrey
Luke, Everly Luke, and Lily Post. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and
nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters (Sadie,
Juanita, and Noni).
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Ed's love of the younger generation, the family is
asking for contributions to be made to The River of Life Fellowship, 3161 County Rd 62
E, Wellington, CO 80549 or The Filling Station, 3906 Cleveland Ave, Wellington, CO
80549.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, September 26, at River of Life Fellowship, 3161 E County Rd 62E, Wellington. A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery, Ft. Collins.
