The Lord said "I'll put you on this earth, Ed, August 9, 1938. You will have 73 years, 3 months and 14 days to complete the job I give you. But you have a curfew. And on November 23, 2011 you are to come home to me. Edward Wayne Batty was born to Phil and Inez Batty in Fort Collins, Colorado. He attended schools in the Fort Collins area and received his High School diploma through a home study course in the mid 1970's.
Dad worked for the City of Fort Collins Water Utilities for 43 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Fort Collins Moose Lodge #275 for 25 years. Dad loved the Colorado mountains. He and mom lived in the upper Poudre Canyon for 9 years before retiring. He loved to fish, hunt, and camp. He and mom loved to travel the Oregon coast or just exploring Colorado. Dad loved family and his many friends and those who called him Dad, Grandpa, or brother. He had a helping hand for all. He was very generous and loved to tease anyone who crossed his path. He just loved life. Dad will be missed dearly. He married Lou Whitson on March 27, 1959 in Fort Collins. They had a very strong marriage through all the good times and bad. Their vows said "until death do we part." Ed is survived by his wife, Lou Batty, 4 daughters, Barb Randy Sievers, Vicky Batty, Pam Meza Carlos all of fort Collins, Shelley Chad Hanna of Loveland; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Sid Batty of Fort Collins; sister, Dena Rathbun; and nieces, and nephews of Oregon and his closest friend, Alva Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Inez, one sister, Hallajean Batty and brother in law, Bob Rathbun. A memorial service will be held at The Vineyard Church, 1201 Riverside, on Thursday at 1 p.m. Rev. Mark Stiger will be officiating the service.
