Edna G. Hu

June 11, 1922 - April 7, 2009 Edna Gertrude Fenske Hu, resident at Columbine West nursing home in Fort Collins, for the past several years, was carried home to heaven Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Edna was born June 11, 1922, in Arlington, S.D., to Walter Otto John Fenske and Therese nee Kautz Fenske. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Arlington, S.D. She graduated from Hetland HS 1940, University of Colorado, B.S. in Nursing R.N., 1954. Edna met Patrick P.C. Hu at the University of Colorado Medical Center when she was a student nurse and he was a medical photographer. They were married May 26, 1956 in Sterling. Edna was a clerk typist with the Army Air Corps in the 1940s, and did office work for a doctor in Sterling, before becoming a nurse. Her nursing jobs included working at Colorado General, Denver General, and Fitzsimons Army hospitals in Denver; for the United States Navy Hospital in Tien Mou, Taiwan; and for the VA in Detroit, Mich. She also worked teaching English in Taiwan and Macau, and helped with marriage and family enrichment seminars with Patrick in Iowa and Michigan. In her heart she always remained a South Dakota farm girl, though she lived and worked in many places across the United States, as well as in the mission fields of Taiwan and Macau. Edna is survived by her loving husband, Patrick; children, Lou Anne Yee Kim, Mark C. Ecaterina, and Lawrence P. Lynn; grandchildren, Elizabeth Yee Erickson, Adam Yee, Gabriel Temujin Hu, Faith Hood, Isaac Henry, Christopher Hu, Christina Hu, and Anthony Hu; six great grandchildren; brother, Arnold AlannaFenske; sisters, Hilda Chapel, Doris Dale Gueck, Irma Peterson, Selma William Crain, Mildred Fenske Joe Yarnell, and Barbara Perschke; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by both of her parents; a sister, Ruth Ann; granddaughter Pamela Yee; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Chapel, Alvin Peterson, and Terry Perschke. Edna loved her Lord Jesus and loved sharing His Word with others. She loved to talk, but was also a wonderful listener, a most faithful and generous friend. She was a most beloved mother and wife. Her last years were difficult, as Alzheimer's disease robbed her of her ability to think, walk, and talk. Now she is free again, walking and talking with her Lord. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 305 E. Elizabeth. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Reverend Brian Bestian will officiate at the service. Those who desire may view Mrs. Hu today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
