Edith Caroline Moore, age 91, died early Friday morning, July 15, 2016 at her home of more than 51 years in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Born May 24, 1925 in New Virginia, Iowa to Charles and Laura Hylton, "Edie" as she was known to her friends, had a sister, Gweneth, who preceded her in death.
After graduation from high school in 1942, Edith left the family farm to start her own career in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended business school and learned the skills she needed to join the secretarial pool for the Iowa State Legislature. During World War II, Edith, like so many during that period, would leave work and go work an additional "victory shift" at a local business supporting the war effort.
In 1949, while working at the Iowa State Capitol, a brash young man by the name of Robert Eugene Moore joined the audio staff for the State Capitol building. He relentlessly kept asking Edith to go on a date with him. She finally relented, a romance blossomed and on April 14, 1950, they eloped. Married nearly 62 years and with one son, Robert Eugene Moore, Jr., they moved to Fort Collins in 1962 where Edith worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for more than 30 years, retiring as Real Estate Specialist for the Regional Director.
During her life, Edith was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also championed the cause of working women through her involvement and leadership in such organizations as the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association, Zonta, the Working Women's Conference and many others. Edith was also an active member and "Lady Elk" for Lodge 804 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her son, Robert E. Moore, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Joyce Osborn; granddaughter, Sara Hass and her husband, Paul Hass, Jr.; great granddaughter, Lela Hass, all of Ceresco, Nebraska; along with several nieces, nephews, and other family in Iowa and her many dear friends.
There will be a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6. at First Presbyterian Church, 531 South College Ave. followed by a luncheon reception at the church and Graveside Service at 1:30 p.m.. at Grandview Cemetery.
