Edith Pennington Beans, age 87, of Atmore, AL passed away on December 24, 2022 in Atmore, AL. She was born on February 27, 1935 in Chillicothe, MO to Alzia "Bill" and Elsie Graves Pennington. When Edith was 6 years old her parents became Seventh-day Adventists. Edith attended Kansas City Junior Academy and Sunnydale academy in MO. She went on to pursue her Teaching Certificate at Union College in Lincoln, NE where she met Don. They fell in love and married August 12, 1956. She taught grades 1-4 in Colorado Springs. She also organized and directed many VBS programs. Edith and Don raised their children and) lived in Ft. Collins from 1960 to 1987. Edith was a member of the University Parkway Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Pensicola, FL. She served on the board of Campion Academy and Bass Memorial Academy. She also was the Director of Women's Ministry at Gulf State Seventh-Day Adventist Conference. Edith owned the Green Turtle Children's Store in Ft. Collins and later The Beans Store in Atmore for many years. Edith enjoyed gardening, reading , sewing and was a very talented decorator.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Dixie Dahl and Barbara Stocker.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Donald R. Beans; her children: Connie (Tim) Mercer of Piney Flats, TN, Cathy (Clark) McCrain of Firestone, CO, Kevin (Linda) Beans of Hopkinsville, KY, Troy (Livny) Beans of Dayton, OH and Jodi (Jim) Burrill of Orlando, FL; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bradford Schleif officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Collins, CO. on January 13, 2023 from 11:00 a.m.
Visitation was held Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL.
