Listen to Obituary
Edgar "Ed" Johnson, 78, of Fort Collins, passed away May 26, 2011. Ed was born February 18, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Leonard and Ingrid Johnson. He graduated as the class valedictorian from Harlem High School in Loves Park, Illinois in 1951, and married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie "Susie" Rose Swanborg, on June 9th that same year. Together, Ed and Susie have four children: Douglas Edgar Johnson, Christina Rose Stafford Jay, Mark Leslie Johnson Lynne Sterkel, and Rogena "Reggie" Sue Johnson. Their four grandchildren are Jeffrey Jay Stafford, Leslie Rose Stafford, Tara Kathleen Hood, and Isaac Alexander Soria. They also have five great-grandchildren. We remember him fondly as the patriarch, provider, and solid rock of the family. Ed began his working career with Woodward Governor in Rockford, Illinois, while he was still in high school. Ed and Susie were relocated "temporarily" to Fort Collins when Woodward began operations here in 1955, and never left. Ed's career at Woodward spanned more than 25 years, during which he held numerous positions, his favorite being personnel manager. After that time, Ed worked for Waterpik. Much of his career was spent in Inventory and Production Control, and he was APICS certified. He retired from Waterpik in 1995. Ed was president of the Fort Collins Jaycees, commissioner of the Fort Collins Little League, a volunteer fire fighter, and contributed to his community in endless ways. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, bowling, and woodworking. He had a passion for figures and card games. He wrote a book on blackjack, and enjoyed his monthly meeting with the "choir boys." He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Marvin Johnson, and his sister Marie Rush. A Memorial Service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the service with the family. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Larimer County Food Bank in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
