Dwayne Ervine Stewart, 73, left us to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 28, 2008. A lifelong Fort Collins resident, he was born on Dec. 11, 1935 to Ruby Mansfield and
Ervine Stewart. A 1953 graduate of Fort Collins High School, he was a top welder and mechanic at the Ideal Cement Company for eight years. He then worked as a mechanic and driver for his father's trucking company, Stewart's Hay and Grain, later Stewart's Trucking. He joined Poudre Fire Authority as a firefighter in 1967. He was promoted to Company Officer, also serving as Training Officer and retired in 1996. After retiring from the Fire Department, he had his own home inspection service. During the '70's, he demonstrated cookware for Miracle Maid, winning two trips to the Bahamas. He married Darlene Lockman in 1954 and they later divorced. He married Shan Nash in Fort Collins in 1967; they divorced in 1993. He then met Phyliss Elliott, who has been his constant companion. They were engaged in 1994. Stewy or Turbo, as he was called by most of his friends, was a gifted guitar player, having taught himself both electric lead guitar and steel guitar. He played a regular segment on a morning radio program in the 50's. Later, he played with several different country & western groups, including the Wagonmasters and Prairie Smoke. He also enjoyed playing old-time gospel music and was part of a group who traveled to different churches presenting the Lord's music. In addition to his music he loved to go fishing and camping, especially with his family. He enjoyed puzzles, and trivia, and could often be found at his computer. Survivors include fianc ¬e, Phyliss Elliott; brother, Dwight Stewart Karen of Fort Collins; four children, Cindy Miller, Ginger Stewart, Randy Stewart Judy and Erin Branchflower Chris, all of Fort Collins; grandchildren, Jennie Miller of Arvada, Kylie Stewart, Caden and Ridge Branchflower of Fort Collins; and former spouse, Shan Stewart Meils; Phyllis's family, son, Kendall Elliott Bobbie of Windsor, daughter Sherri Ramirez of Fort Collins, grandchildren Jason McDowell Amaris, Ashlen and Lauren Elliott, Stevan and Evan Ramirez, and great grandchildren Breanne, Aston, and Bailey McDowell. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene Lockman, his parents and his sister, Joyce Peter. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Timberline Church, 2908 Rd, in the South Auditorium. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
