Listen to Obituary
Dusty Alan Greathouse, Jr., 34, of Fort Collins, Colorado formerly of Streetsboro & Mantua, OH died tragically Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Dusty was born on December 10, 1977 in Ravenna, OH to Karin Lancaster Greathouse Piteo and Dusty Alan Greathouse, Sr. Dusty graduated High School in 1996 from Streetsboro High School in Streetsboro, Ohio. During this time he participated in the Ohio State Fair Choir and was a member of the Young Marines. Currently, Dusty was enrolled at Front Range Community College where he was going to study Horticulture & Natural Resources starting January 2012. Dusty is preceded in death by his father, Dusty A. Greathouse, Sr. of Alliance, OH and his beloved grandmother, Louise M. Lancaster of Streetsboro, OH. Survivors include his loving fiancée, Hillary Koontz; mother, Karin Lancaster Greathouse Piteo; step father, Carmen Piteo; sister, Nichole Baatsen and brother-in-law, Alexander Baatsen; brothers, Jerimiah Greathouse, Carmine and Joesph Piteo; sister, Lori Greathouse, and grandmother, Rose Greathouse. In August of 2003, Dusty packed up his life in Ohio and moved across the country to Colorado where he met his love fiancée, Hillary Koontz. Dusty and Hillary were to be married on October 11, 2012 at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch. He had a love for nature from the rolling hills of Kentucky, deciduous forests of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia to the mountains and sunshine of Colorado. This love was evident in his plans to further his arborist skills by studying at Front Range Community College and ultimately opening his own business. Dusty was a kind and giving man who supported the US Military Services and several foundations including Locks of Love. Dusty always went out of his way to lend a hand without any expectation of anything in return. He loved everything about Colorado's outdoors; skiing, kayaking, and camping. Dusty was an expert camper mainly due to his adventuresome nature, ingenuity and outdoorsmanship. From climbing up ridges to driving the camper there was never a camping trip that was not fun or successful. His ingenuity carried over to his hobby of carpentry which he shared with friends and at home. Other interests and hobbies of Dusty's were fishing, golf, shooting, sports, coin collecting, and BBQ Smoking. Ultimately, Dusty was a man of his word, a man of great honor and respect, a man of irrefutable character, hardworking, conscientious, reliable, dependable, accountable, willing, helpful, polite, kind, committed, and dedicated. And on the day he passed he was doing what he loved, Arboriculture. Memorial contributions may be made to the DAG Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will honor Dusty by supporting a scholarship in the Horticulture/Arboriculture field. Please make donations payable to "Hillary Koontz" in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel at 121 West Olive Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
