Doug was born to Bud and Chrystal Straube of Oxford, Nebraska on August 1, 1947. He lived as a boy with his parents in Oxford on a farm, attending grade school in Beaver City and 3 years of high school in Oxford. While in high school, he belonged to FFA and raised purebred Yorkshire hogs. His senior year he won several medals with his prize hog, named Gorgeous George after his favorite wrestling star. He graduated from high school in Wiggins, Colorado, where he drove a school bus. After Doug graduated, his family moved to Gunnison, Colorado. That summer he worked at Foster Lumber Company, and then moved with the family when the construction company his father worked for moved to Fort Collins. He enlisted in 1968 and spent most of his years in the Army at Fort Hood in Texas. After leaving the service, he worked for Sterling Sand and Gravel out of Fort Collins then drove his own over-the-road truck until ill health forced him to look for something different. He then moved to Bullhead City, Arizona, and bought into an awning company. He stayed in Bullhead until poor health once again forced him to come back to Colorado to be closer to his mother. Unfortunately, his health continued to decline and he was hospitalized at the veterans' hospitals both in Cheyenne and Denver, and continued to live with family until his collapse at home two weeks ago. He died at Poudre Valley Hospital on February 9, 2010. He was preceded in death by his father, Bud Straube, of Fort Collins; his uncle Donald Geiselman of Oxford, Nebraska; and both sets of grandparents. He leaves to mourn, his mother, Chrystal Straube of Fort Collins and the man he considered a second father, Clair Childress of Kimball. Nebraska; his aunt, Marlys Geiselman of Oxford, Nebraska; his niece, Cathy and her husband, Gerald Jaeger of York, Nebraska; his nephew, Duane Geiselman and wife, Vicky of Arapahoe, Nebraska; his nephew, Gary Geiselman of Broken Bow, Nebraska; and his nephews, Roger and Dale Geiselman of Oxford, Nebraska, as well as many other relatives and friends.
