Listen to Obituary
Douglas Jon Bland, 63, passed away peacefully on October 1st 2025 at his home, surrounded by his children.

Doug was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on September 28th1962, to Frances and Sonnie Bland. The youngest of five children, Doug spent his childhood in Colorado and Indiana. After graduating high school in Fort Collins, he briefly moved to Washington State before returning to Colorado. In 1989, Doug married Monica, and the couple raised two children- Casandra and Devin in Northern Colorado. As a talented craftsman, Doug took immense pride in building the family home, landscaping, and maintaining the property with the help of his family. Doug always had the ability to take any DIY home project and turn it into something beautifully crafted and one of a kind.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Doug loved to explore the outdoors- whether on foot with his bow & arrows, camping, or kicking up dirt in his Razr, he was always happiest when he was in nature and surrounded by the Rocky Mountains.

Doug will be remembered most by his humor and friendship, his self-determination, and through the wide-ranging knowledge and skills that he determinately passed on to his children. Doug liked to spend his free time tinkering with RC cars, planes and drones, reloading ammo, grilling, or having a few beers around the fire with friends. Doug loved heavy metal music, the Denver Broncos, and nature survival shows.

Doug is survived by his children, Casandra Bland (James Standen), Devin Bland (Taylor Divelbiss), brothers (Mike [Karen] Meyers, Steve Olmstead and Kenneth Dickey), Donna Meyers & family, Morgan Potter, Laurie Curci, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and the many friends who were Doug's chosen family.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers (Donald Dickey and Billy 'Boots' Olmstead), Neggie Morrow, Les Ellerman, Dave Ester, and Howard 'Toad' Meyers.

A memorial for Doug will be held at Lions Open Space in LaPorte, Colorado on Saturday, October 18th at Noon. His ashes will be released by his children in a private ceremony at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude's Foundation, a charity that Doug supported faithfully for decades.
