Dorothy Elizbeth Thayer-Houchin-Meineke, 91, of Fort Collins, died April 27, 2008, at a local nursing home. Dorothy was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Alfred E. and Margaret Thayer. She graduated from Berthoud High School and then from Barnes Business College. Dorothy worked for the Civil Service for many years, including a riveter during World War II and worked at Fitzsimmon's Army Hospital and Lowry Air Force Base for 10 years. She also was a secretary in a lawyer's office for 35 years and a telephone operator. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing quilts, raising cats, singing with the "Harmonetts," and she loved to dance. Survivors include one daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a brother. Preceding Dorothy in death are her two husbands, one son and a grandchild.
