Dorothy Ann (Schulz) Benedict passed away January 24, 2015 at 91. She was born to Gus and Amanda on June 6, 1923, in Brighton, Colorado.

She graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1941 and went on to the University of Michigan where she received her diploma in nursing. She married Marion R. Benedict on January 6, 1946.
She began her career as an OR staff nurse in 1945 at Poudre Valley Hospital. She worked in numerous positions with the hospital prior to being named Director of Nursing in 1953 and then Assistant Administrator in 1963. She held both positions until her retirement in 1977. During her career, she was a long standing member of the Colorado Nursing Association and served on the Board of Directors at the state level in 1958. She was selected as the DNA nurse of the year in 1968 by the Association. She founded the volunteer program at PVH and continued as a volunteer for 30 years after her retirement.

She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was known for her positive attitude and caring for everyone around her.

She is survived by four children: Ed (Geraldine), Beth, David (Paula), and James; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; her brothers, Edmund and Arthur; and her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 305 E. Elizabeth.
