Doris Sanchez

Nov. 17, 1920-July 5, 2008 Doris Mary Sanchez was born in 1920, in Red Wing to Hinigio and Rosa Sanchez. Her family moved to Fort Collins in 1942, when she was 22. She married Lee Suniga in December, 1943. They had two children, Bonnie Etta and Louis Lee Suniga. Doris and her husband, Lee, lived in Fort Collins. She was employed at Colorado State University for 25 years in the Food Service Department and retired in 1985. She loved being a homemaker and spending time with her family and friends. An avid golfer, Doris was a member of the Fort Collins City Park Nine Women's Golf Association. She enjoyed playing the sport with her friends as often as she could after her retirement. Devoted in her Catholic faith, Doris was a Parish member of Holy Family Church in Fort Collins. Doris is survived by her son, Louis Lee Suniga and wife, Sandy Tellez Suniga; four brothers, Don Sanchez of Windsor, and Bill Sanchez, Joe Sanchez, and Lee Sanchez, all of Denver; two sisters, Tillie Salaz and Dorothy Soliz, both of Denver, seven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Vincent Suniga; daughter, Bonnie Etta Suniga Solano, and grandson, Chan Solano; her parents, Hinigio and Rosie Sanchez, two brothers; Alex and Mike Sanchez, and sister, Mary Ellen Valdez. A rosary and mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Father Damian de la Cruz will officiate at the service.
