Listen to Obituary
Donald W. Johnson passed away December 13, 2013 at Poudre Valley Hospital. He was born November 28, 1951 in Alameda California to Wesley C. and Wanda A. Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father.
Don was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was an incredible artist and woodworker. Their home was full of beautiful artwork and fine furniture that he created. His first job in the art industry was as a graphic artist at the Thomas D. Murphy Calendar Company in Red Oak IA. Here he met his wife, Gayla, where they fell in love and were married. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Lea, in 1975. They moved to Fort Collins two years later where Don began his 30 year career at CSU in the Printing & Publications department, where he enjoyed working the other end of the art spectrum. They were blessed with their son Cody in 1981.
Don organized family vacations to the spectacular Colorado mountain areas that he loved. Trips included camping and fine fly fishing rivers, the San Francisco Bay area to go home and visit family and friends, Elgin & Orchard, Nebraska and Red Oak, Iowa for perfect bass ponds. Traveling to the east coast included taking a fishing rod. Once in Yellowstone, a crowd of tourists gathered behind Don to watch his superb casting skills and surprised him with a round of applause as he reeled in a prize trout.
Don is dearly loved, missed and survived by his mother Wanda, his wife of 38 years Gayla, his daughter Lea Jay Lott, his son Cody Jennifer Johnson, his brothers Alan and Jeff Johnson, and his most precious and endearing granddaughter Adalina Johnson and grandson Dakota Johnson.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
