Donald Duane Delehoy affectionately known as "Grizz" was born at his family home in Fort Collins, Colorado May 1, 1938 to Glen Delehoy, Sr. and Emma Schelt Delehoy. He passed away January 14, 2018 in Wamego, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father Glen Delehoy Sr., his mother Emma Schelt Delehoy and recently his eldest brother Glen Delehoy Jr.
He was a graduate of Cache La Poudre High School class of 1956 where he was a talented athlete. He was a varsity athlete in football, basketball and wrestling. He was also his Senior class vice president. He earned a football scholarship to Colorado State University but declined the scholarship and instead served 4 years in the United States Navy including a tour in Japan.
September 30, 1961 he married Dixie Nina Bateman (deceased) and divorced in 1987. October 22, 1988 he married Catherine Teresa Vuksic Baker.
He spent his career in construction working for Bateman Trucking, Flatiron Construction and Western Mobile. After retiring from construction he worked 10 years for the Poudre School District until fully retiring.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed camping, travel and woodworking and building/fixing things. He taught generations his favorite card game, Cribbage and often played with family into the wee hours of the night. He particularly enjoyed the Rocky Mountains and the Ocean. He was known as a generous and helpful neighbor and most of all a devoted family man.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine of Wamego KS; two children, Dan (Kris) Delehoy of Fort Collins and Lousenda Stillman of California; two step-daughters, Teresa Lynn (John) Osarczuk of Manhattan KS, Debrah Sue (Fred) Perez of California; his brother, Delbert (Donna) Delehoy of Fort Collins; his sister, Betty (Lloyd deceased) Everett of Fort Collins; grandchildren, Aimee, Danny, Dylan, Amanda, Christa, Jerica, Brian, Trenton and great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Zachary and Jaylyn.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 West Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado on Saturday January 20th at 11:00 a.m. a reception will follow. There will also be a Celebration of Life gathering in Wamego Kansas at the Stewart Funeral Home on Saturday January 20th from 1:00-2:30p.m.
