Don was raised in the small rural town of Rochester, Michigan. He attended both Ferris State College and Oakland University, majoring in biology and philosophy. He completed a four-year apprenticeship in metal fabrication in the experimental engineering group of General Motors Truck and Coach Division. Don then transferred to the Experimental Stress Group where he was a project engineer.

Don's early career was centered around the creation, engineering, manufacturing and management of products. In retrospect, it seems clear that all of Don's education and career activities created a foundation for his art and sculpture.

Don's designs were created in his mind, and he rarely drew any design initially. He began with a piece of wood, steel or aluminum shaping it as he envisioned.

Don's art pieces have been widely collected in the United States as well as Mexico, England, Germany, Canada and Belgium. The unique steel and aluminum sculptures ignite the imagination in a most positive way, possibly providing a smile and a creative boost. His art career began in earnest in 1989.

Don and his wife Marilyn married in 1959 in Rochester, Michigan. A few years later their cherished daughter Susan was born. In 1969 they moved to Colorado, residing in Loveland, Longmont, Grand Junction and Littleton prior to moving to Windsor in 2014.

Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and is survived by his wife and daughter, two grandchildren, Mitchell (Isabelle) and Kody (Justin), and two great grandchildren, Ian and Jax.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Parkinson's Foundation.
