Donald W. Cannon, 78, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away May 13, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He was born June 29, 1932 in Ryder, North Dakota to Lillian and Forrest Cannon. Don was an avid outdoorsman, who especially excelled at fishing. He enjoyed all sports and was recently honored as one of the founding members of Fort Collins Youth Baseball. Serving as president of FCYB, he also coached his son's baseball teams and a men's city softball team as well. Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Korea as a supply sergeant. He played semi-professional basketball for the Strip Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada while stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1960. He was self-employed and sold and repaired athletic equipment for schools. His priority in life was his family and young people. He was lovingly known to his family as "Dandy Don, the swell guy." He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, JoAnn aka Jodie M. Cannon and his four children, Cheryl L. Beery Dave, deceased, Diane L. Idler Darwin, Terri A. Berger T.S., and Jeffrey P. Cannon Diane; and his grandchildren, Paul D. Cross, Brad J. Cross, Erin M. VanGalder Kevin, Ryan J. Cannon, Jeffrey T. Berger and Tiana L. Cannon; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Jerry Petrocco of Denver. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation in his name in care of the Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Private services will be held at a later date.
