Listen to Obituary
Donald Ray Asmus, born March 18, 1952 to Harold and Norma Jean (Tuxhorn) Asmus, passed from this earth on the morning of November 26, 2023 in Fort Collins, Colorado. His dearest friend Pam Franzen was present with him as his journey was completed.

Don was born in Greeley, Colorado, but the family including older brother Paul Asmus, moved to Fort Collins in 1955 where he grew up in an ideal neighborhood near City Park with lots of similarly aged children. He spent his childhood and adolescence interacting with neighborhood kids doing all the things a healthy child of the time did including bike riding, swimming, fishing, golf, fireworks, searching for all manner of wildlife. He graduated from Poudre High School and Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree Magna Cum Laude in Engineering in 1975. Don then moved to the Denver area to take a job with Stone and Webster as a Civil engineer for a 40 year career until his retirement in 2015. During his work years he was the "go to man" for computer issues and at home he did beta testing for all the new Apple Computer products. He was always on the very cutting edge of personal computer technology and had the first model of all Apple products. His many hobbies included model rocket building and flying, and following manned and unmanned space flight. He also closely followed the latest "quality" movies and upcoming female singer/songwriters-becoming somewhat of a amateur film and music critic. Later in his life he would take daily 5-10 mile walks around the Denver area taking numerous artistic photographs. Full of kindness, he enriched the lives of many, particularly in his last three years of life where he interacted with many health care workers and staff members at long term care facilities, most recently Morningstar.

Don is survived by his brother Paul (Alice) Asmus of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Stepmother Betty Asmus, stepsister Sandra (Micheal) Manning, stepbrother Thomas (Sarah) Nesbit, numerous nieces and nephews and his dearest friends Bill and Pam Franzen. Don was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Merrill Shearer, stepsister Barbara Dugie, and stepbrother Charles (Wendy) Nesbit.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in Fort Collins in the summer of 2024. Donations may be made in Don's memory to the charity of your choice.
