Listen to Obituary
Donald "Don" Lee Roy Webber, 80, of Fort Collins, died April 12, 2012 at Poudre Valley Hospital from complications of his disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Mr. Webber was born November 1, 1931 in Longmont, Colorado to Henry and Rachel "Lesser" Webber. Don married Margaret Canfield in 1953 in Denver, Colorado.
Don began his teaching career in 1956 at Wellington High School. He was the superintendent of Poudre R-1 School District from 1971 to 1984. He loved the students who he and his colleagues served as educators. In 1991 Webber Middle School was name after him. Don was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Ft. Collins Masonic Lodge #19.
It was always clear that Don loved his family. Don lived his life according to his principles: Work hard and have fun were among the most important of those principles. As those who know him well can attest, he always worked very hard at the things he believed in. In the healthiest twenty years of his life after retiring from education at the young age of 53 he and his wife Margaret worked hard at having fun. They laughed more with their friends, enjoyed their grandchildren often and travelled the world nonstop. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; son, Don Lisa Webber, II of Duxbury, Massachusetts; daughter, Margaret Michael Carvin of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Don Webber, III, Maximillian Webber, Diane and Joseph Carvin; brother, Robert Webber of Arvada. Preceding Don in death are his parents; and daughter, Diane Johnson, a Delta flight attendant, who died in a plane crash in 1985. The family would like to give special thanks for the remarkable care that was given to Don at Poudre Valley Hospital and to the in home care givers and their special care of Don over the years. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 531 South College. A reception will immediately follow the service in Shepherdson Hall. There will be a Graveside Service at Grandview Cemetery on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Diane Louise Johnson Scholarship Fund or First Presbyterian Church in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W.
