Don L. Uhlenhake passed away July 16, 2011 at Spring Creek Healthcare Center under the care of Pathways Hospice. Don was born on April 25, 1935, in Whittemore, Iowa to John and Mary Uhlenhake. He graduated from high school in Whittemore and entered the Brotherhood in Ste. Marie, Illinois to study for the priesthood but had to withdraw for health reasons. He then went to work in the audit department for Continental Insurance Company in Des Moines, Chicago and Denver. Don moved to Fort Collins to work for Shaffer and Evans. When that agency sold he worked for Bill Giltner Insurance Agency for 22 years. He later worked for The Linden Company and A & A Insurance until his retirement. Don was a member of the Lions Club and a Life member of the Fort Collins Elks Lodge. As a member of the Elks, Don was most proud of the fact that he instituted the Fifth Grade Americanism Essay Contest for the lodge and chaired this project for twenty five years. Don never married. He is survived by sisters, Mary Jane Art Mulligan of Mankato, Minnesota, Marge Harry Esser of Pensacola, Florida; a brother, Jack Deloras Uhlenhake of Lees Summit, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roger Joan L Uhlenhake of Tempe, Arizona. Funeral Mass will be conducted at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 300 West Mountain on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Interment will take in in Whittemore, Iowa. A reception will follow the Funeral Mass at the Fort Collins Elks Lodge, 1424 East Mulberry St. In lieu of flowers, Don felt a contribution to the Fort Collins Elks Charitable Trust in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524, would be appropriate.
