Dolores Binder

Dolores Margaret Binder left this Earth on Jan. 5, 2007, after a long, hard-fought battle against ovarian cancer. She was born April 7, 1929, in Victoria, Kan., to Nicholas and Catherine Gabel. She graduated from Marian High School in Hays, Kan., in 1947. In October 1949 she married Floyd J. Binder Sr. in Hays, Kan., and moved to Fort Collins, where she has resided for the past 58 years. After the kids were older, she worked at Sedar Plastics in Fort Collins and in 1970 began working at Hewlett-Packard from which she retired as a machine operator. After retirement, she volunteered many hours at Mary's Closet at St. Joseph's Church and PVH Patient Services. Her work ethic was extraordinary, and we often joked how she worked harder in retirement than she did during her career. Family was important to her and many hours were spent around her kitchen table, especially on Sundays for breakfast. Attending her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events or musical events were of the utmost importance to her. She loved to travel. Her first time on a plane was a trip to Europe, which she repeated several years later, followed up by trips to Washington, D.C., New York City and numerous trips to South Carolina and Georgia to visit family. Mom was a gentle soul who always looked for the positive and spoke only kind words to and about all those who she knew and loved. She is survived by three daughters, Linda Hefner Ron, Susie Huschka Darrell, Sheila Hockley Richard, all of Fort Collins; and two sons, Floyd Jr. from Elizabeth and Larry Linda from Fort Collins. Dolores had seven grandchildren, Ron Hefner Jr., Julie Hefner-Kerr, Tammie Larson, Farah Oster, Brianne McWilliams, Nick Binder and Lauren Binder; two step- grandsons, Chris Hockley and Andrew Hockley; eight great-grandchildren, Kristen and Alyssa Hefner, Aly and Brock Kerr, Brent and Brian Larson, and Megan and Cole Oster; and five stepgreat-grandchildren, Jaccob, Uriah, Noah, Mathew and Josiah. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Mary Sauer and Marlene Brull; and two brothers, Wayne and Gary Gabel, all from Hays, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father and brother. The family would like to express deep appreciation and thanks to Dr. Diana Medgyesy and her entire staff and Dr. David Ottolenghi, who have helped her through the past four years, as well as the amazing staff from Hospice, especially Jacque, Michelle and Maria who aided in making her final days peaceful. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 9, 2007, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with burial following at Roselawn Cemetery. Those who desire may view Mrs. Binder from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
