Dewey Edwards, Jr.

July 13, 1931 — March 2, 2024

Listen to Obituary
Dewey Edwards Jr. was born July 13, 1931 to Dewey Edwards Sr. and Edith Edwards.

Dewey's love for fishing and hunting was a defining part of his life. He grew up in Effingham, Illinois, where he worked on the family farm and honed his skills in these activities. Later, he met and married Joy Keegan. The two remained married for 74 years until Joy's passing in February 2024.

Professionally, Dewey spent many years in the oil fields of Texas before moving to Fort Collins, CO. In 1963, he took a job exercising his natural mechanical abilities at Woodward Governor (he affectionately referred to as "Woody Gov"). Dewey quickly advanced to a supervisory position and remained there for 17 years. Upon leaving Woodward, Dewey embarked upon a new career as a General Contractor and continued that line of work until his retirement in 1999.

Personally, Dewey was a faithful and committed follower of Jesus Christ and shared that faith with anyone who would lend him an ear. He was known best by family members to which he shared his love of fly fishing, his clever wit, his interest in politics, his love of bluegrass music, his skill and understanding of anything mechanical, and many of his unique "Deweyisms," such as: "Caddie-Whompus." Would I lie to you," A" little time and a few kind words," *Good enough for the girls I go out with," "It looks fine if you drive by fast enough," That's no hill for a climber like me". When asked how he was doing, Dewey always replied, "Not bad for a fella like me".

Survived include his daughter Paula Lynn Emery (husband Gary); two grandsons: Joshua Emery (wife Bree) and Ethan Emery (wife Tina); five great-grandchildren: Faith Emery, Jeremiah Emery, Anaiah Emery, Justice Emery and Isaiah Emery. Dewey is also survived by his sister Nelda.

Dewey was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Brenda Sue, and most recently, his wife, Joy Edwards; parents Dewey Sr. and Edith Edwards; brothers Donald Lee Edwards and Ross Edwards, and sisters: Barbara Ann, Bernice, Pauline, LuLaBele and Marjorie.

Dewey will undoubtedly be missed by loved ones left behind. Still, we rejoice that he now has arrived at his eternal home and has most likely found a rightful musical instrument (most likely a Martin D28 Guitar) to accompany the Heavenly Choir.
