Derek Sean Swanson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Derek Sean Swanson on 1/24/2018 at 5:20pm after a several year battle with cancer. Derek passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home in Wellington, CO. Derek will be lovingly remembered by his spouse of many years Shylo Harris and his children, Cameron, Matthew, Julianna Swanson, Lakota Balderston-Swanson, step-sons Daniel and Elijah Harris. Derek will as well be remembered by his brother and wife Aaron and Katrina with children Drake, Brooke and Robin. His sister and husband Jessica and Greg Voth with children Allie and Max. Step sister Michelle Trujillo, mother Dennise Swanson and spouse Richard and father Basil (Baz) Swanson with wife Barb Trujillo. Derek will as well be greatly missed, remembered and cherished by many other family members and friends.

Derek enjoyed life in itself, willing to try anything and mastering many. Derek graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1988 and further continued his education at New Mexico State College.

Derek was a bull rider as a young adult, then moving into mechanical traits finally settling into aircraft mechanic where he retired from due to illness. A man who could fix anything and amaze many. There are many hobbies and extra curricular activities that Derek has done such as hockey, archery, hunting, fishing, golfing and many others he just had to try in his lifetime. He truly enjoyed riding his motorcycle as he would explain it was a sense of peace to feel the sun on his face and the wind whistling. There were many times in his life you would find Derek helping and teaching those around him to "live life simple as dirt" but always with a smile.

A Funeral Service in celebration of Derek's life will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524. Please come enjoy sharing memories and celebrating Derek's life full of many journeys, love and friendships.
