Derek Everett Jones, 20, of Fort Collins, died Oct. 22, 2005, as the result of a tragic car accident. Derek was born March 12, 1985, in Fort Collins to Fred Everett Jones Jr. and Mary Ellen Thorne Jones. He lived all his life in Fort Collins, graduating from Rocky Mountain High School in 2003. He then became a self-employed contractor. Derek enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping, boating, swimming, and the outdoors. He loved his home and family, and his friends and they loved him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a great sense of humor. Derek is survived by his parents, of Fort Collins; a sister, Julie Ann Jones, of Burlington, Vt.; grandparents, Fred E. and Violet Jones, of Fort Collins; three aunts and two uncles, Pat Ross, of Fort Collins, Janice and Randy Seymour, of Somers, Mont., and Betsy and Bill Hartman, of Batavia, Ill.; and several cousins. Derek was preceded by two grandparents, Evan and Lillian Thorne, and two uncles, Jack and Bob Thorne, all of Batavia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Pastor Paul McGraw will be officiating at the service. Contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Larimer County Humane Society, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
