Delores J. Turman, 75, of Fort Collins, died November 4, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Turman was born June 7, 1936 in Ada, Oklahoma to Homer L. Tipton and Velma Tipton. Delores married Doyle J. Turman on May 25, 1957 in Davis, Oklahoma. Mrs. Turman lived in Ft. Collins for the past 35 years. She was a teacher and owned Turman's Operation Electric Appliance Center from 1979 – 2001 and owned a travel agency. Delores was actively involved in Soroptimist International of Ft. Collins from 1987 through 1995, and 2003 through 2012. She served in numerous leadership positions, including 2 terms as President of SI FC: 1991-92 and 2006-07. She generously served as co-Treasurer of the AAUW/SIFC Used Book Sale for a number of years. SI FC's annual LIVING HER DREAM AWARD was established in 2006 and was inspired by Delores' 2006-07 theme – "Women and Girls Living Their Dreams." The award provides financial support to local women with established goals and plans to live their dreams. She was an active board member of the DMA. Delores was also a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed quilting, crafting, travel, and cooking. Survivors include her two sons, Douglas Jay Turman and his wife, Terri Turman and Darrell Homer Turman and his wife, Jo M. Locricchio-Turman; a daughter, Dalynne Nancy Turman; her sister, Mary Griffin; two granddaughters, Annamarie L. Turman and Rebecka AJ Turman, and two grandsons, David J. Turman and Drayden J. Turman. Preceding Delores in death are her husband, Doyle J. Turman, and her father and mother. A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover, on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. A Private Interment will be held at Grandview Cemtery at a later date. Rev. Rebecca McFee will officiate at the service. A Visitation will be held, Wednesday, 6:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m., at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to Soroptimist International, Fort Collins Chapter in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
