Rod was born August 14, 1929 in Arriba, Colorado. He was the oldest of William R. and Edna Mae (Behrends) Davis's 11 children. He attended school at Bovina and Arriba graduating from Arriba High in 1947.

During High School in the summers he began working and living with local farmers since the family only had one car. He worked on a harvest crew one summer and in the local grocery store before he was drafted. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953, serving in Battery C of the 17th Field Artillery Battalion where he helped fire the 8" Howitzer and was a Cook. He was manager for Foster Lumber Company for many years, eventually retiring. He also helped out on the family ranch fixing fences and haying or any odd job that was needed and spent some time doing construction work in Steamboat, a few months in Dallas, TX and around Kremmling. After retirement highlights for him were the many trips he and his wife Judy enjoyed and included many bus tours, cruises, road trips and gambling trips. He continued them even after her passing, making many new friends. Rod lived many places in Colorado throughout his life, including Gunnison, Frisco, Denver, Hotchkiss, Kremmling, Cedaredge, Grand Junction, Greeley and finally Sedgwick. So, of course, he was very good at Colorado Geography! He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He was also a 60 year member of the Elks.

He met Judith A. Knorr at his birthday party in Summit County and after a short long distance courtship they married on January 17, 1972. To this union a son and daughter were born.
