Listen to Obituary
Surrounded by her loving family and friends, Deanna Charlene Hicks left this world to be with God on Good Friday, Apr 14, 2017. Born on November 8, 1937 in Fort Collins, Colorado, Deanna was the daughter of Harold and Charlene Hicks (Hagans). She attended Fort Collins elementary schools and Fort Collins High School until she and her parents moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where she graduated from Cheyenne Central High School in 1956. After graduation she moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked for Mountain Bell for a good number of years. She later moved back to Fort Collins where she was a valuable member of the graduate student division of the Fish and Game Department at CSU. After leaving CSU she worked for Poudre School District both at Lincoln Jr. High and Poudre High School in a variety of support staff positions. From there Deanna was offered a position in child support with Larimer County Social Services from which she retired after 19 years. Deanna was a loving and giving person who would offer her help in any way to make others' lives easier and more comfortable. Deanna had an undeniable dedication to everyone in her life. Her family was large and encompassed many generations of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. She always surrounded herself with family, friends and animals. Deanna's love of music was demonstrated on the dance floor where she could dance the fox trot like a professional, and when family and friends would gather around her as she played her ukulele and sang, especially during many "evenings of music." Deanna loved to travel and would take family or friends on her journeys as she toured different parts of the country. She left no stone unturned when she traveled, which showed her sharp and adventurous personality. Deanna was a Jeopardy game show whiz and in her spare time, she loved to attend plays and read. She was actively involved in the Democratic Party and was one of the first women to run for Larimer County office as a candidate for county commissioner.
She will be deeply missed by her nephew, Sean (Sandy) of Greeley; niece, Paula Hicks of Pueblo; grandnephew, Bradly Givens (Chris) of Cimarron; grandnieces, Alissa Jiron of Colorado Springs and Stephanie Hicks of Denver; great-grandnephews Isaiah Lucero of Colorado Springs, Aiden Howes of Denver, and Stetson Dinkel of LaPorte; great-grandnieces Jordyn Gonzalez and Samari Garcia of Colorado Springs; numerous cousins including Leslee Garcia, Leni "Cissy" Elliott, and Dan (Paulette) Hagans, her special friends, Nonie Vlahavas of Colorado Springs and Patricia Woodward of Ft. Collins, and her good friends and caregivers, Kelly Cortez and Barb Cansler, both of Ft Collins.
Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Charlene Hicks; brother Darrell Hicks; sister-in-law Marge Hicks (Kendall); nephew Jeffery Hicks; grandnephew Alan Hicks; and her beloved dog MoMo.
A Rosary will be held at Bohlender Funeral Home on Tues, Apr 25 at 7:00 pm with viewing available prior to the service. A celebration of her life will be held on Wed Apr 26 at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Collins. Memorial contributions may be made to St Joseph's Stain Glass Project.
