Listen to Obituary
Dean Schipper, 84, of Fort Collins passed away on June 20, 2011. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 10:00a.m. at Peace with Christ Lutheran Church, 1412 W. Swallow Rd, Fort Collins. Dean Alva Schipper was born on May 20, 1927 in Red Oak, Iowa to Alva and Erma Schipper. He was very proud of his service in the Army Air Corps and the Army during World War II and in the Army during the Korean conflict. He continued to proudly wear his uniform at every Memorial Day and Veteran's Day service that he attended. His World War II Veteran's ball cap was a conversation starter wherever he went. Dean married Lorraine Bobsin on March 2, 1952 in Paso Robles, CA before moving to Billings, Montana to work for the CB&Q Railroad. They then moved to Nebraska, where his three children were born. His career as a Sales Manager with Lincoln Steel and Ruan Transport took his family to Iowa and Missouri before settling in Colorado. Dean made his final move to Fort Collins where he worked for Colorado Lien before retiring. Attending his families and grandchildren's activities was the highlight of his later years. Dean spent time sitting on hard bleachers at concerts and games and in a lawn chair watching tennis, soccer and football games. He became known as "grandpa" to all and welcomed everyone to be a part of his family. He was also a faithful servant of God and active in the Lutheran Church wherever he lived. He was a member of Peace with Christ Lutheran Church for 35 years. Dean was a founding member of the °Romeos" Really Old Men Eating Out who met for coffee at the PVH cafeteria every Tuesday morning. He was also a member of the American Legion, Attack Pack and Aspen Club. Dean is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorraine; son, Tim Heather Schipper of Wilmington, Delaware; daughters, Karen Mel Carlson of Windsor, Colorado and Judy Scott Dahlgren of Fort Collins. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Joshua Schipper, Ashley Matt Chernak, Eric Natalie Whitehead, Morgan Cliff Moore, Justin Lehman, Kyle Lehman, Ty Lehman and Corey Dahlgren. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Pat Schipper, numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Duane Schipper, Adrian Schipper and Phyllis Daugherty. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Peace with Christ Memorial Fund in care of Bohlender Funeral Home, 121 W. Olive St, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
