Listen to Obituary
David C. Waltman “Dave” passed away unexpectedly Sunday July 5, 2026 early in the morning at home. He was a faithful Christian who loved his family deeply. Dave is survived by his wife, Diane, daughters Alisson (Gage) Soehner, Adrienne (Dereck), and son Andrew (Alyssa); and two grandchildren Quinn and Cade Soehner, brother Don (Debbi) of Windsor, cousins Jean (Rowan) McCormick & family, and Mark (Kerri) Thompson, many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Lennav Waltman and his sister Denise (Waltman) Rivera and nephew Baldemar Rivera Jr.

David C. Waltman was born on May 28th, 1954, to Lennav and LeRoy Waltman in Sanitarium, California. He grew up in Dixon, California with his siblings Denise and Don. At age thirteen the family moved to Lakewood, Colorado where his father, Leroy, was transferred for work. After graduating from Alameda High School in 1972, he moved to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University and majored in industrial science. It was in Fort Collins where he built a community of strong friends and family for the last 54 years.

While in high school Dave met Diane Johnson in 1972. They connected later in 1974 by chance in Fort Collins while attending CSU. They were married on June 3rd of 1978 and were inseparable soulmates all the way to the end. Dave was happiest when surrounded by family, and was most proud of his children - Alisson, Adrienne & Andrew.

Raised in the Church of Christ, his faith was a constant source of strength for him his whole life. He lived every day with a strong commitment to his faith.

Dave’s working life was spent in the ready-mix concrete business as a truck driver and plant manager. In his younger years, Dave enjoyed bicycling, rock climbing, and backpacking. He was an enthusiast of the outdoors, and he felt most at peace in the Colorado mountains. Dave was an avid skier and shared his love of freshly groomed runs with his children. His other lifelong favorites were fishing trips with Andrew, elk hunting with his buds, Bronco games with his nephew, camping expeditions with Diane, golfing with Adrienne, playing cribbage with Alisson, and taking road trips in an overloaded SUV with his family.

He was an avid music lover and grew up playing the banjo and the sousaphone. If the Allman Brothers or ZZ Top were playing on the radio, it’s safe to assume Dave’s toes were tapping, and his love for music was passed along onto his children.

Dave also was an accomplished craftsman. He was a talented woodworker, as evidenced by the many useful projects & gifts he built for his home, family & friends.

In his years of retirement Dave enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren at their sporting events. He was an exceptional cook and loved preparing meals for family and friends. One of the things that we will all remember were his hugs and hospitality, as Dave never knew a stranger. He made sure you were taken care of when you came over to his home, providing you with plenty of stories, jokes, and bologna or sourdough salami sandwiches.

Contributions can be sent to Bohlender Funeral chapel on behalf Diane Waltman to go toward Memorial Trees for the Family. With these trees the family will be able to honor David by creating a living tribute that will continue to grow, offering comfort, beauty and remembrance for years to come.
