Listen to Obituary
David B. Thompson, 86, of Fort Collins, died August 27, 2009 at Fort Collins Health Care. Mr. Thompson was born December 3, 1922 in Superior, Nebraska to David and Maude Thompson, Sr. At age 10, David and his parents moved to Fort Collins where they owned and operated the Electric Shoe Shop. David graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1941. In 1943, David was drafted into the Army Air Corp and served his country until 1945. During that time David was captured and detained in Malmar, Sweden for 15 months. After the military, Dave worked at several places in Colorado, Wyoming, and California. He worked for Woodward, Marin and International Harvesters. David married Loree Thompson on May 17, 1957 in Fort Collins. They lived in Fort Collins most of their married life. During the first years of their marriage they took ownership of the Electric Shoe Shop and in 1978 purchased Clarkes Hallmark which they enjoyed running together for many years. During their 46 years of marriage they enjoyed their many friends, camping in the Snowy Range in Wyoming, golfing, and traveling in their 5th wheel trailer. David enjoyed painting and photography. He loved music and dancing. He loved people and seemed to be fascinated with them. He always had a kind word and loved to make people smile. He was a good friend to many along the way and always made an impression. David is survived by many family members who loved him and will miss him; Terry & Ruth Whalen, Bret & Cindy Dalton, Pete & Cheryl Thomas, Tina Ayala, Helen Duncan, Don & Nancy Skaggs, and Leon & Kim Weninger. Dave is finally at peace and heaven is already being told, "Keep your finger on it!" A Memorial Service with Military Honors by Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will be held at Timberline Church, South Auditorium on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Darren Fred will officiate the service.
