David Morris Hedstrom, of Red Feather Lakes, passed away December 20, 2018, at Columbine West Health and Rehab Center in Fort Collins, he was 82. He was born October 30, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Daynor M. Olson and Cecyl Delp Olson Hedstrom.
His family moved to Colorado in 1946, settling in Owl Canyon. He graduated from La Porte High School in 1956, attended Colorado A & M College (CSU) 1956-57, and Fort Lewis A & M College (Fort Lewis College) in Durango, Colorado 1958-1959. He was drafted in 1959 and joined the US Navy's two-year program for college students. He served aboard the USS Ticonderoga CVA-14 on the flight deck until his discharge in 1961.
November 11, 1961, David married Gloria J. Cagle in Lakewood, Colorado. David worked at Herrick Construction in Englewood, and Rothfuss Landscaping in Denver. In 1963, the family moved to Fort Collins and he began work at Public Service Company of Colorado (Xcel Energy) in the Electric Department. He was a Lineman retiring in 1994.
After his retirement, he and his wife, traveled to many sporting events to watch their grandchildren. He was very active in many organizations in Red Feather. David loved being outdoors, walking, watching the wild animals, and wood working. He was a very kind, gentle man, always lending a helping hand to others.
David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria, son Dan (Amie) Hedstrom of Fort Collins, and their children Breanna (Joshua) and children Rilyn, Braxton and Brynlee Self of Springfield, Danielle (Brian) Barringer of Firestone, Tanner (Breanna) Hedstrom of Timnath. Son Scott Hedstrom of Glen, MT and his children Sierra Hedstrom and son Michael Wise of Glendale, AZ, Cody Hedstrom of Sterling, step-children: Heather Howell-Buchtel (Jeremiah) and children Deagan, Kenadie, Brooklyn, and Grace Buchtel of Moreno, and Keith Howell and daughter Aloryn of Montrose.
He was preceded in death by his father Daynor Olson, parents Cecyl and Alvin Hedstrom, sister Donna Ahlbrandt, step-brother Gordon Hedstrom, step-sisters Barbara Morman and Arlene Cherveny. His wife's parents David and Gloria Cagle.
A Memorial Service will be held January 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive Street, Fort Collins. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
