Dave Gilbert, 46, of Livermore passed away suddenly May 6, 2008, while traveling in Ontario, Canada. Dave was born on Feb. 24, 1962, in Minneapolis, Minn., to James and Gladys Gilbert. He received the Ph.D. in WaterShed Science from Colorado State University CSU where he worked as a research scientist. Dave and his friend and colleague, Tom Sale, built an internationally recognized environmental research program. The program has acquired seven patents and advanced numerous students at CSU. Dave was married on June 21, 2002, to Susan Howe, his best friend and life companion. His greatest accomplishment arrived on Oct. 2, 2004, the birth of his son, Jensen Howe Gilbert. Dave loved the outdoors: hiking, paddling and skiing. He traveled extensively for work and pleasure, but his greatest love and his greatest journeys were experienced at home with his wife, son, their many canine companions and friends. He is survived by his wife, Susan Howe; their son, Jensen; brothers, Phillip and Peter Gilbert and their families, and many friends. Dave is preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dave's life will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Shambhala Mountain Center, 4921 County Road 68C, Red Feather Lakes, CO. See
